INA FASSBENDER/Newscom/RTR- Buried in the forests of Thuringia in East
Germany lies a Cold War bunker offering guests an experience they won't
soon forget: a spartan night as a soldier in the former communist
People's Army bunker.
Don't expect mini-bars, spa services and a warm welcome from staff.
Guests are handed People's
Army trousers, jackets, belts, caps and a gas mask while a man in a
major's
uniform barks orders to march through the fir trees with luggage and find the bunker. Guns (including Kalashnikov assault rifles) gas masks and hand grenades are all on display for guests to check out, alongside poison controls against chemical weapons. The 3,600-square-meter bunker museum also features a telephone exchange room, a map and planning room, emergency food supplies from the 1970s and even a Trabant Car. Depending on the size of their group, guests can pay around €120 each for a 16-hour stay. But the beds are far from luxurious, instead prepare for razor-thin bunks and a blanket.
