Hugh Jackman joins Chappie

Hugh Jackman has joined 'Chappie'.
The 44-year-old actor has announced he's onboard the new sci-fi thriller alongside Sharlto Copley and Jose Pablo Cantillo, which will be Neill Blomkamp's next project following his eagerly anticipated Matt Damon-starring flick, 'Elysium'.

Speaking at a press conference at the Zurich Film, he said: 'I am doing a role in Neill's new film, called 'Chappie', which we shoot in Johannesburg. I'm there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year.'
Details about the new film are being shrouded in secrecy, but it's thought the futuristic movie - which is based on a short film Blomkamp made in 2004, titled 'Tetra Vaal' - will take place in the slums of South Africa, where robotic police officers patrol the area.

Dev Patel is up for the lead human role, playing an impoverished young man in the city, while regular Blomkamp collaborator Copley - who has appeared in 'District 9' and 'Elysium' - will play one of the police robots.

Blomkamp wrote the script for the film and along with Terri Tatchell.
'Chappie will be financed by Media Rights Capital, who also backed his previous film 'Elysium'.
Meanwhile, Jackman can currently be seen in the thriller drama 'Prisoners' alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.
